Wintery Vermont Engagement Photos at Von Trapp Resort

If you are looking for winter engagement photos in Vermont, the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe offers snowy fields, forested trails, and mountain views that feel quiet, cozy, and timeless. Winter engagement sessions in Vermont can feel intimate and grounded, especially for couples who want candid photos that reflect their connection rather than stiff posing.

When M & P hired me to photograph their engagement photos, none of us fully realized that we were about to commit to a very cold and very fun winter adventure together. In the weeks leading up to their session, we went back and forth talking through location options. I offered places that involved some walking and others that were more of a step-out-of-the-car situation. We talked through free locations and paid options, and what each would feel like in the middle of winter.

We ultimately landed on the grounds of the Von Trapp Resort in Stowe, which is open to photographers as long as you purchase a day pass. Snowy fields, quiet woods, and mountain views felt like the right fit for what they were hoping for. As the session got closer, we kept a close eye on the forecast. M & P were traveling in from out of town, so rescheduling was not really on the table. On the day of, with temperatures hovering below 15 degrees, we all decided to go for it.

As always, I came prepared. Disposable hand warmers strapped to my camera, layers on layers, Blundstones firmly fitted with yak trax. Extra gloves, scarves, and hats in my car.

As is often the case, we started the session by slowing down and checking in. We talked about how they were feeling about being photographed and what felt comfortable to them. I shared my usual reminders. You never have to look at the camera. Everything I suggest is optional. There are no wrong answers here.

Once we got moving, the cold briefly faded into the background. We wandered through snowy fields, ducked into the woods, and let the session unfold naturally. There was movement, laughter, quiet moments, and a lot of cold noses by the end.

By the time we wrapped up, we were definitely feeling the temperature, but I knew we had made something really special together. The kind of images that come from trusting the process, leaning into the moment, and being willing to brave the elements for something meaningful.

Winter engagement sessions in Vermont are not for everyone, but for couples who value connection, a little adventure, and the snowy months, they can be incredibly rewarding. Locations like the Von Trapp Resort offer a beautiful backdrop for candid engagement photos that feel personal, relaxed, and true to who you are together.
